Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2
3.5 Waffles!

Bill Hader returns as the voice of Flint Lockwood – the scientist who tried to save his beloved Swallow Falls in the first movie by creating a machine that makes food out of water (yes, water is technically a food, but this water gets turned into really awesome food we’d rather have like steak and ice cream). The place has been overrun with cheeseburgers, tacos and more, so the townspeople have been evacuated, while Flint’s idol, Chester V (Will Forte), has been called in by the government to clean it all up.

Fulfilling a lifelong dream (that we just learn about in this movie), Flint has been hired by Chester V to work at his company, Live Corp, but everything is not as it appears (have we stumbled upon a nefarious plot?). The clean up is not going as planned, and Flint has been sent to Swallow Falls to retrieve his machine, which has started to produce food monsters like Shrimpanzees, Flamangos and more!

Can Flint save Swallow Falls?

Is Chester V interested in this machine because it will help with his nefarious plot?

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 is a movie filled with lovable, hilarious, infectious goofiness. If you can’t laugh at a screaming leek in a boat, you don’t deserve to live!

Directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn, along with the writing team, deliver a mix of silliness, quick wit, and allusions so obvious, yet, so funny you don’t mind it. The whole movie feels like some Jurassic Park homage, complete with the scenes of wonderment as Flint and his pals all return to the island to see what destruction he has wrought with his invention. The only scene missing is some sort of big monster making the water in the glass jiggle.

And, we do get plenty of heart as well. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 revisits the strained relationship between Flint and his Dad, Tim (James Caan), and the audience is given a huge, unmistakable lesson about the importance of friends and loyalty to them, which can always come in handy.

Plus, kudos to Terry Crews for stepping into the shoes of Mr. T and giving Officer Earl the same amazing spirit and life we got from the character in the first movie. He’s tough as nails, but a real softy underneath the go-getter machismo, which makes us love him even more. Truth be told, I still thought it was Mr. T until I did my usual research after the movie, so Crews, once again, proves to be a great actor you want to see in every movie.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 has a bit more potty humor than I would like, but, when you get past that, everyone can have some fun and laughs.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 is rated PG for mild rude humor.
